Our First Christmas

Even though Brandon and I had dated for almost two years before we got married we had never spent Christmas day together until this year. Unfortunately, Brandon had to work at Panda Express on Christmas so we really only got a few hours together. It was still a good day though.

As you might know I am horrible at taking pictures but here is what I took. These first two are when we got our  Christmas tree:

Even though Brandon and I had no patience of giving our Christmas presents to one another, we still had some presents to open Christmas morning. Naturally I didn't take any pictures of us opening them but I did take a picture of the aftermath:

Brandon and I decided to come up with a new tradition of what we have for breakfast Christmas morning. We  decided to do homemade cinnamon rolls and also a crock pot recipe for hot chocolate. For it being the first time for me of making either of these recipes I think they turned out well.

After this point I stopped taking pictures. The rest of the day was good though. I just talked to family members, relaxed, and made dinner. Brandon actually stayed very busy on Christmas day and a lot of people were thankful they stayed open.

We are hoping to be able to come up north next year though.

Not a Disastrous Haircut

My friend Jen started her job today at a salon. I was her first customer and this is my new haircut:

Christmas Tree and Disaster Haircut

First of all, Shannon and Lindsay got to me and so I talked to Brandon and we are now getting a Christmas tree! It will probably just be a Charlie Brown one but at least it is something. We also looked at the prices for ornaments, lights, and a tree stand and it isn't as expensive as we thought it would be. So there you go, I am not going to be a Bah-Humbug.

Anyways.....

For a while now Brandon has needed a haircut. For the past year we have had our friend Jen cut our hair but she has recently graduated from cosmetology school and she has a job but for some reason hasn't received her license yet. We wanted to just wait until she got it because we knew if we just asked her to come over she wouldn't let us pay and we feel like we should pay.

Anyways, Brandon does have a hair cutting set and the other day I jokingly said, "Oh I will just cut it!" He thought this was a great idea and convinced me I should try and if it goes wrong we would just call Jen.

Here are pictures of Brandon before the haircut. Just so readers are aware for some reason one side of his hair in the back grows quicker than the other. That is why it looks weird:

To make a long story short because I feel like I am writing I novel....I can NOT cut hair. This is what I did:

So we called Jen and asked her to come fix it. She laughed when she saw what I did which I don't mind because I thought it was funny. She then did the best she could at fixing it. I don't know if these pictures are really doing anything and really showing the difference between the disaster and how Jen fixed it but I promise there is a huge difference! Jen really made it look as good as it could:

Moral of the Story: Dana should never cut hair again.

Early Christmas Gifts

Like I said in my last post the other day Brandon and I went to St. George. While we were down there we decided to splurge and buy ourselves early Christmas gifts. We decided we had the money for a couple of things we have wanted for a while and we actually wouldn't be breaking the bank in order to get our gifts. Brandon got an iPad and I got a Kindle. Yes, mine is not as cool but for me it is like having a personal library with no due dates because you can download a lot of books for free.

When we decided that we would count these as our gifts we decided there isn't much of a point of us getting a Christmas tree this year. Yes, trees aren't too expensive but we would need to get ornaments, a stand, and a skirt. It just doesn't really seem worth it for us. Instead we are being creative and there is of course a Christmas tree app on his iPad. We played with it and made a Christmas tree.

We are going to set this out on Christmas day and be nerds. Until then though....HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

Sister Wilson

Warning: This post will probably only be interesting to my sisters and parents.

Yesterday Brandon and I went to St. George and we were walking when someone called, "Shannon!" This kind of confused me but since there weren't a lot of people by I looked around. This older woman who looked familiar was looking at me and started mumbling trying to remember something and then says, "Bell! Are you Shannon?" I told her I was actually Dana and then I asked who she was because she looked familiar she then told me she was Sister Wilson! We caught up for a minute and then we went our separate ways.

Honestly, I think the weirdest part of it is her thinking I looked like Shannon. I really don't think I look like any of my sisters.

Good News!

Brandon started training for the assistant manager position today at Panda Express! I am so proud of him :) His manager approached him about a week ago asking if he would be interested in the position and of course he said yes. His manager then said it would just need to be approved by the regional manager. Well Brandon met with him on Saturday and he approved! The only downside is the training is a three month process so the sweet raise won't be coming until January.

I also feel the need to blog about his birthday before it becomes completely outdated. I can't put up pictures though because my friend still has my camera cord and I am too scared to demand it back. Instead every time we hang out I bring it up, she says she will give it back to me that day, and then I never follow up on it. Anyways.....

His birthday was a good day we went to St. George for a bit to see my Dad in the marathon and to visit with cousins. As we were in St. George Brandon's family kept calling my phone and I kind of figured they were just trying to get a hold of Brandon so I kept giving him the phone because I was talking to my cousins. His family would just say, "Oh, we just need to talk to Dana just have her call when she can." They then would call back like 30 minutes later. Finally one of his siblings text me asking if we were at home. I finally put two and two together and realized his family was in Cedar City and came to surprise us! Well once we figured this out we hurried back to Cedar City. We were glad they came though it was a lot of fun.

Dana's Thumb

Today at work I was an idiot. I was breaking down boxes and was using a razor to do so; however I was not smart and I had the razor going toward me and I sliced my thumb. I bled for almost 20 minutes and my boss, Jontelle, Janet, and I were trying to decide if I would need stitches. Jontelle said it would be covered by workers comp so we decided it wouldn't really hurt to go check. After deciding this Janet and I went to WorkMed which is basically InstaCare for worker's compensation.

It turned out I didn't need stitches but I was long overdue for a tetanus shot so the doctor told me I had to get one.  This is me after I learned I had to get a shot:

It hurt.

Besides getting a shot they also bandaged up my thumb and I have to keep it on and not get it wet for the next 48 hours. This means Brandon has to do dishes YAY! So here is me with my giant thumb:

I will blog soon about Brandon's birthday my friend just has my camera cord right now so I can't upload the pictures I took. It was a fun day though!

How Guy #2 in My Math Class Relates to Both of the Savages

Avid readers of this blog will remember a post about the two idiot guys in my math class. Well, they are still idiots, but today I learned that Brandon works with one of them: Guy #2 whose name is Andy. On Tuesdays and Thursdays Brandon will walk me to my class and since he has an hour break until his next class he usually just studies in the building that I have math. Today we got out early and when I found Brandon I saw Guy #2, Andy, talking to him! Brandon introduced us and mentioned how we both have math together, we said hello, and then Andy had to go. I then told Brandon that Andy is one of the guys I told him about and I asked how he knew him. He told me they work at Panda Express together and he is about to become the assistant manager! Brandon says even though he seems like an idiot in math he is a hard worker at Panda Express.

At least he isn't as bad as Guy #1, then again when Brandon saw him come out of the classroom he told Andy how I was in his class and somehow mentioned that the course is 1020 to which Andy replied, "Oh I thought it was 1010." That ladies and gentlemen is Brandon's future superior.....

Our Temporary Roommate

This is my friend Janet LeBaron, currently her room at her apartment flooded and is growing mold. While all of this gets worked out and fixed she is living with us. It has been fun cause we have always wanted to live together but it just never worked out. Actually, Janet, Brandon, and I have always joked around that we are like JD, Turk, and Carla from Scrubs and now we actually feel like that since we have our JD living with us.

Boys in my Math Class

Before I get to this blog post I want to say I got kind of bored with the music thing (I lasted so long right?) Maybe every now and then we will post the next day so it just won't be 30 days in a row. Now on to this story......

So I sit in front of these guys in my math class who basically talk to one another the whole time. It is really annoying but I have learned to tune them out because I like sitting up front because I pay attention better and there aren't any other seats in the front I can take. Sometimes I hear their conversations and I just think they are idiots but today I heard their conversation before class and well to me it is kind of funny so I decided to share it.......

Boy 1: So there is this girl who is obsessed with me but I don't like her cause she is only borderline cute. I don't want to be mean though and tell her I am not interested so what I am going to do is tonight there is this thing she invited me to and I am going to go and bring another girl with me. So there are these two really hot girls and I am trying to decide which one to ask. Which name sounds hotter Tiffany or Nia?

Boy 2: Nia is a hotter name.

Boy 1: Okay then I am going to ask her.

Boy 2: Wait why can't you just tell this girl you aren't interested?

Boy 1: Cause I am a really sensitive guy and I don't want to hurt her.

.................yeah..............

Day 6: California Songs!

Today's theme is songs that remind us somewhere. Brandon and I picked two different songs, but what they have in common is they remind us of California. Mine is "Get to Me" by Train and the reason why it reminds me of California is my sisters, my Dad, and me would listen to that CD a lot when we would travel (mostly to California). Brandon's song is "I'm Still a Guy" by Brad Paisley. It reminds him of the month he lived in California, he heard it for the first time when he was moving to his apartment:

Day 5: Songs that Remind Us of Someone

Dana: For my song I decided I would pick a song that reminds me of someone else besides Brandon. Not that I don't love Brandon, but I just wanted more of a challenge because it is easy to pick a song that reminds me of Brandon.

For my song I picked "Invisible" by Clay Aiken, which reminds me of Aubrie Hopper. First off I just want to say that I think this is the creepiest song and I really am not a huge fan of Clay Aiken but this song does bring back good memories. Aubrie and I had this tradition that whenever we were having bad days or just frustrated with guys we would buy strawberry gummies and sobes. We then would consume them and talk. One of the first times we did this we were listening to Clay Aiken and for some reason we decided to make up a dance to "Invisible." I think we only had to listen to the song like twice to come up with the whole dance. For some reason we showed it to our friends and they thought it was funny so when they would ask we would perform it. We were so cool:

Brandon: He picked the song "Can You Tell" by Ra Ra Riot. His brother Jeff introduced it to us last Thanksgiving and we have loved the song ever since. The song reminds him of me. Also the music video is awesome:

Day 4: Songs that make us Sad

Dana and Brandon: We don't agree on a song that makes us sad, but the reason why I am just combining us instead of writing two explanations is we both love the songs that makes us sad. The reason why they makes us sad is just the lyrics mostly. They aren't happy songs. The song that makes me sad is "Hide and Seek" by Imogen Heap and the song that makes Brandon sad is "The War was in Color" by Carbon Leaf:

Day 3: Songs that Make Us Happy

Dana: One of the songs that make me the most happy it's kind of ironic that it does. It is "The First Single" by The Format, even though some of the lyrics are kind of depressing the tune and music to it just makes me so happy. Also the music video is just so random that it makes me happy also.

Brandon: The song that makes him happy has a story behind it. I love this story, but I am warning readers now that it is a little bit sappy. Still I love it and the story makes me happy.

When Brandon came back from his mission he just wanted to date around. He decided his theme song was "I Don't Wanna Be in Love." A few months after being home though he was dropping a girl off from a date. Afterwards he was listening to the radio and the song "Say it Again" by Marie Digby came on. He decided he wanted to find someone and be in love, he was tired of dating around. About two months later we met and after a bit when he would listen to the song he would think of me and he knew he was in love with me, which made him happy. The song still makes him happy:

I hope we aren't being to annoying by doing this, but then again by looking at the stats of how many visits we are getting we have been getting more views on our blog daily. Who knows maybe we are introducing people to new music that they might like. However, if any of you guys starting like the music from Day 2 we have officially failed.

Day 2: Songs We Hate

Dana: I know some people might like me less for hating this song, but oh well. I cannot stand the song "My First Kiss." I just hate it so much and I can't really explain why:

Brandon: Okay so we both hate this song a lot. However, Brandon hates this song so much that he didn't want me to post it on our blog he doesn't "want our blog associated with such garbage." I am posting it anyways because I think people need to be aware of how terrible this song is. It is "I'm Awesome" and it is not awesome:

Music! Day 1

So this was on my good friend Natalie's blog and I thought it might be fun for Brandon and I to do. Yes, maybe all we will accomplish during this experiment is just annoying everyone but oh well, it gives us something to do. So for the next 30 days we have to post songs pertaining to the day's theme:

Day 1 - Your favorite song
Day 2 - Your least favorite song
Day 3 - A song that makes you happy
Day 4 - A song that makes you sad
Day 5 - A song that reminds you of someone
Day 6 - A song that reminds you of somewhere
Day 7 - A song that reminds you of a certain event
Day 8 - A song that you know all the words to

Day 10 - A song that makes you fall asleep

Day 15 - A song that describes you
Day 16 - A song that you used to love but now hate
Day 17 - A song that you hear often on the radio
Day 18 - A song that you wish you heard on the radio

Day 27 - A song that you wish you could play
Day 28 - A song that makes you feel guilty
Day 29 - A song from your childhood
Day 30 - Your favorite song at this time last year

Dana: So for today I will obviously post my favorite song. It really didn't take me long to think of it, the song is "Rock & Roll" by Eric Hutchinson, which Natalie actually introduced me to. This song always makes me happy and I don't think I could ever get sick of it:

Brandon: He likes the song "This Town" by Of A Revolution (O.A.R.):

A dream happening possibly sooner than later :)

I have played the violin for 10 years and for a while I have always wanted to teach lessons. I'm the type of person that I need to work or I feel useless and since I was about 15 or so I always hoped that when I started having kids I could start teaching lessons on Saturdays.

Well today my friend Janet and I went to lunch and for some reason we started reminiscing about being in symphony. While talking about this I mentioned to her how someday I want to teach lessons. She then asked me, "How would you feel about starting that sooner than later?" It turns out our friend Autumn, who teaches a music class at a charter school and who is Janet's roommate, was recently asked by a mother of one of her students if she would be willing to teach her daughter violin. Autumn has some experience with violin but she doesn't think she has enough to teach someone. That night she asked Janet if she would be interested and Janet said no because even though she loves to play she doesn't like to teach. Janet asked me if I would be interested and I of course said yes! She is going to tell Autumn this and Autumn will tell this lady that she found someone who could teach her kid.

I really hope all of this works out because it would be amazing if I could start doing this. I'll keep you posted if anything happens.

Back to School....

Brandon and I started school this week and we have survived the first week! So far it is pretty good. I am taking math, beginning grammar, advanced grammar, and intermediate poetry. I only have to go to my math class on MWF but on TTh I have to go to all four classes! These days are pretty busy, but already I am getting used to it. I really like all of my English classes, the only issue I have with my grammar classes is my teacher doesn't have a good sense of time and usually keeps about 5 minutes after we are supposed to leave. I don't mind this for beginning grammar because my next class is advanced grammar and since it is the same teacher I don't really have to worry about being late. However, with advanced grammar I mind because between that class and my next one I only have a 40 minute break and that is when I have lunch. With my intermediate poetry class we are reading Macbeth right now and on Sept. 1 I am required to go see the Utah Shakespearean Festival perform it! I am excited for that and Brandon is going to come with me so I don't have to be a loser and sit by myself. With my math class I just grin and bear it, I still don't understand why it needs to be a requirement especially with being an English major. I had my first test today and I actually think it went pretty well.

Brandon this semester is only taking English, Business Law, and Sociology. So far he likes them, but his least favorite class is Business Law. He understands why he needs to take it, but he just doesn't like law.

Well that is it, we are excited for the semester and we are very excited to see everyone next weekend!

Triple Digits, Update, and Inception

Today is the 100th day since Brandon and I have been married :) Now, before anyone thinks I am a dork and I count the days on a calendar I don't. While we were engaged I downloaded a Widget for my computer counting down until I got married. After we got married the counter just started counting the days since we got married. I must say the first 100 days went by very quickly, but we are very happy. On this momentous occasion I thought I would give an update on our lives:

Brandon: He is working at Panda Express still and loves it. He is actually going to be getting a promotion in October to be Lead Counter Worker. The way he describes it is the hierarchy of Panda Express is regular employee, lead counter worker, assistant manager, manager, regional manager, vice-president, and then president. So he says he is almost there of becoming the president of Panda Express. He also got a new calling in our ward and he is the ward clerk of memberships. As of right now we aren't sure if this means we can't do nursery anymore. So far we haven't been released so we are hoping we can because we do like it.

Dana (me): I am boring and there isn't anything new. I'll be starting school next week and this will be my first semester in college since I haven't worked at the newspaper. I'm wondering how that is going to be. I am guessing I can easily get a 4.0 because I will have a lot of free time. I will still be a janitor but I will do that in the mornings before classes. I will also continue to substitute teach which I do love to do.

Us: Like I said we still enjoy being married and we are seven thank you notes away from being done with them! I feel bad that it took us three months, but I am happy we got it done before school starting. We'll be finishing those up today and sending them out.

Another thing is we are saving up for a house and a baby. We are NOT planning on getting a house or having kids for a few more years but we decided it would be wise to start saving now. We are actually going to do CDs too for these so interest on it can go quickly and we won't be tempted to spend it.

The final thing is we are coming up Labor Day weekend! We are planning on coming up Friday evening or Saturday morning (it just depends on his work schedule). Saturday we are planning on spending time with my family and Sunday we are spending time with Brandon's family, but we will be coming back to Orem that night. We are then leaving Monday morning. We are excited to come up because we have missed our family.

Finally, on Saturday we went and saw Inception! I was very excited because I had been wanting to see it since the first time I saw a preview for it which I think was like a year ago. I'm pretty sure it is the best movie ever and if not that it is definitely the best Christopher Nolan movie. I am not going to go into any of my theories on it because for people who haven't seen it I don't want to ruin it. However, I am going to post this video about the music for Inception it doesn't give anything away but I think it is really cool:

So basically the music they use for the kicker is a countdown. Cool huh?

"Camping"

In our apartment we don't have central air but a swamp cooler. We actually don't mind it works well, keeps our house cool, and doesn't use a lot of energy. Now, even though it keeps our house cool, yesterday was an exception. You see we haven't done laundry in a while so yesterday we had to do a lot of laundry. Since the washing machine and dryer are right by our bedroom the heat from our dryer kept that area warm and the swamp cooler didn't cool it down. So at about 9:30 last night our room still wasn't cool and so we decided to "camp out" in the living room where it was nice and cool. We had recently got an air mattress and so we were excited to try it out. Here are pictures of our set-up and us:

We weren't too tired once we got everything set-up so we decided to watch television. One funny thing about our cable situation is it is pretty white trash. We haven't gotten cable yet because while Brandon was looking for a job it just wasn't logical to live off my salary and use some of it for cable and Internet. We decided it would be a little bit wiser to save what we weren't using. So what we have been doing is just watching channels we can pick up. The only two channels we can really get are ABC and Fox. With Fox though it is in black and white and can sometimes have pretty pretty bad static. So last night we watched Seinfeld and I decided to take a picture of our white trash situation:

In case you guys are wondering we are getting cable and Internet soon so I am pretty excited about that.

Work so Far

In my last post I wrote about how Brandon got a job at Panda Express, this post is just kind of following up on that and also has pictures of him in his uniform! By the way, I apologize of how boring my posts are there's just not a lot of exciting things going on. So far Brandon is really liking his job. He has only worked one shift though, but he will be working his second shift today. While he is training he is part-time and once he "proves himself" they'll give him more hours. After the first day though the manager said he was already really impressed so maybe it won't be too long before he gets more hours. This is him in his uniform:

This next picture is of us and me wearing his work hat:

So there you go! I know this post was really lame I will try to think of something more interesting to write next time. Any suggestions?

Church Calling & New Job

So in our ward Brandon and I got called to be Nursery Leaders. We were pretty excited when we heard this because we think it will be a fun calling. However, our ward is a married ward and not a family ward so there aren't tons of kids, even less than that are kids who are actually old enough to be in Nursery. There are actually only two kids who are old enough. Brandon and I will be alternating with a three other couples so we will only be there once a month. However, yesterday was our first day and we had a lot of fun.

The two kids are Jaron and Calen. They are both cute kids and were fun to look after. One thing though is Calen is deaf and because of this he can't walk yet (because when you are deaf you have bad balance) and he can't talk. However, he does know quite a bit of sign language. His mom, Katie, is worried about leaving him alone so she will stay in there sometimes and usually Calen only stays for an hour and then goes to Relief Society with his mom. His mom is very nice and she was showing me signs that Calen might use so I can know what he is asking for. He actually kept asking for a balloon yesterday....it was funny. I want to be able to learn some sign language of what we will be teaching him too so then I can show him a picture of what we are talking about and then do the sign. He is a really cute kid.

So of course no Nursery lesson would be complete without some form of coloring activity so we colored pictures of a temple and a family that went along with our lesson. I made too many copies though and so Brandon and I decided to color too. Here are our works of art:

After yesterday we are still convinced that we will love these callings.

In other news, for the past month Brandon has been applying for jobs and yesterday he got a call saying that he has been hired at:

He was so happy after he got the call and I am so happy for him too. Brandon really does like to work and it has been boring for him while he has been trying to find one. He is actually working his first shift right now! I am hoping that on the nights he closes that he can bring home some of the leftovers because Panda Express is my favorite fast-food restaurant.

Honeymoon, Apartment, and Married Life in General

Okay here is a post with actual pictures! I am not posting any wedding pictures yet because the only ones we "have" are on the photographers Web site. If you haven't seen those click here and here. When I get the disc which will be sometime in June I will post more of them.

As far as the wedding day went it was wonderful! The only time I was stressed or worried was driving to the temple because I was running behind and when we were in the Celestial Room I almost passed out because I hadn't really eaten that morning. Luckily, I wasn't the first bride to do this so they had some saltines and water I could have. That was why the sealing started a bit later. Sorry for those who came to that! I just think it would've been embarrassing if I passed out during the ceremony.

With the wedding though I am really happy we did a dinner instead of a reception. Brandon and I were relaxed the whole time and we got to eat. So, win win. I think we also did a good job at saying hello to everyone there and if we didn't I apologize.

We spent the night in Provo and then the next night in Cedar City. On Monday morning we started our road trip to California for our Honeymoon! On our way there we stopped at a Tommy's because Brandon had never been before:

He loved it.

We eventually got to Long Beach, checked in, and boarded the boat. This is a picture of our boat and our room. The picture of the boat was taken a couple of days later because it was when I could get a good shot of it:

I didn't really get a lot of pictures of the boat, but one thing I did take a picture of was this jeweled egg. They were all over the boat and I am not sure why they picked this to decorate:

It was a very relaxing cruise. We would lie out, watch movies, go on shore, golf, walk around the ship, and EAT! There was a lot of amazing food served on the boat; however the best food was the food served at night at dinner. For all other meals you could either do room service or go to the buffet. At night though you had a certain dinnertime and it was like going to a restaurant. They would have waiters and an amazing variety of food! You would also have tablemates. The people we ate with were a family from northern California and they were very nice. This is Brandon and me at dinner as well as our tablemates:

Now, with the dinner there were always three courses and there would be some items that were always on the menu and then new items every night. One of the items on the dessert menu was the warm chocolate melting cake. Hands down best dessert I have ever had. I had to take a picture of it so here you go:

Another aspect on the ship was every night when we got back from dinner housekeeping would have come and gone for the second time (they would clean morning and night) and every night they would have a new towel animal, well except the last night it was a heart. I thought they were really cool looking so here they are:

With the cruise there were two destinations: Catalina and Ensenada. We would only go on shore for an hour or two because the boat was usually pretty empty most of the days so it was a lot more relaxing to lie out on those days. Out of the two destinations I liked Catalina the best. We couldn't dock there so we had to take a boat out to the island:

When we got there we decided to rent a couple of bikes just to explore the island. I wore a skirt that day which wasn't the smartest thing for me to do but I did adjust so it wouldn't fly up as I rode:

One of the last things we did was get a snack. I got a frozen banana and Brandon got a corn dog. Brandon decided we needed to take a picture with me and my banana:

I didn't feel the need to take a picture of his corn dog.

The next day we went to Ensenada and I didn't like it as much as Catalina, but here are some pictures of us on shore:

One of the souvenirs we got there was a chessboard for Brandon. I think it is really cool looking and I am learning how to play and I actually like it more than I thought I would:

This last picture is my favorite picture of us on our honeymoon. We were just outside watching the sunset and someone offered to take a picture of us:

After the honeymoon and the open house we finally had time to finish putting our apartment together. So in no particular order here is our apartment!

I am hoping to purchase some picture frames that we can put wedding pictures in and hang up. We didn't get any picture frames as wedding gifts despite registering for them :(

So there you go! We have been married three weeks now and couldn't be happier!
